Program News and Review

Selkie is based on a Scottish folktale about seals that shed their pelts and become human one night each year. The play by Laurie Brooks Golobin, directed by Amanda Alvey, depicts the struggles of Duncan (who fell in love with a selkie and took her pelt so she would follow him), Margaret (the selkie/human who longs for the sea), and their daughter, Ellen Jean (who is ashamed of her webbed hands, taunted by peers for being different, and torn between land and sea).

Reno Little Theater presents Selkie as part of the 13th annual Artown festival, July 1-31, 2008. The month-long summer arts festival features more than 350 events produced by more than 100 cultural organizations and businesses in locations citywide, with major funding provided by the City of Reno.
