Meet Allan Felix: a nice guy, but a loser at love. Back on the dating scene after his wife divorced him for "insufficient laughter," Allan is on a quest for true love. His best friend, Dick, tries to help, but he is too glued to the phone doing business to either help Allan or pay attention to his wife Linda. It is Linda who actually helps most, leading the reclusive, and odd, Allan through a series of fruitless encounters with go-go dancers, intellectuals, and nymphomaniacs. Yet, maybe true love is closer at hand—is he falling for Linda? Allan has one other ally in his quest, his hero Humphrey Bogart. Of course, Bogey is all in his head—or is he—but the immortal tough guy dispenses hilariously sage noir wisdom about the mysteries of "dames," and how best to handle them (with "a slap in the mouth or a slug from a forty-five.")
This fast paced and witty romantic comedy is Woody Allen at his best, filled with great gags and warm moments, all seasoned by noir nostalgia.
